Editor’s Note:

This recipe is Nita Gizdich’s recipe that she gave to customers of the Gizdich’s Pik-yor-sef Berry Farms 40 some years ago. I found it in a community recipe book recently, tried it and served it to company. It was such a hit, I decided it needed to make a “comeback.” You try it…You will like it!

Recipe:

Heat oven to 375°. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternating with milk. Beat until smooth. Pour and spread batter into a greased 11” x 7” x 2” pan. Spoon mixture of berries and sugar over batter. Bake 40 to 50 minutes. Let cool. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.

Remember other berries and fruits can be substituted. I used mixed berries which included blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. It will be fun to experiment with this recipe.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup soft butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 cup sifted flour
1 quart olallie berries, smashed
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
