Bargetto Family selected Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau’s “Farmer of the Year - 2010”

It was announced today that the Bargetto Family of Soquel has been selected by the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau as the “Farmer of the Year - 2010”.  This award is presented annually to the farmer(s) who have contributed beyond their normal farming duties to help the community.  The presentation was made during its 93rd Annual Meeting held Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Driscoll’s Company Ranch in Aromas.  The board of directors felt it was appropriate to honor this family who made significant contributions within Santa Cruz County and the Pajaro Valley.

Featured speaker for the evening was Vince Barabba, Former Director of the US Bureau of the Census who spoke on the “United States Census Bureau…the other nine years”.  Master and Mistress of Ceremony were Cynthia Mathiesen, Co-Chair of the Public Relations and Information Committee and John Eiskamp, President of the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau.

Other activities of the Annual Meeting included the election of officers and directors:

There are a total of 19 directors on the board and all terms commence on November 1, 2010


For 1st term, three-year director:
Gordon Claassen – Cal Poly Swanton Pacific Ranch
Dave Cavanaugh – Ornamental Horticulture
Steve Bontadelli – Brussels Sprouts
Dick Peixoto – Organic Vegetables 

To complete 3rd year of the first term:
Matt Bissell – Timber
 
For 2nd  term, three-year director:
Nita Gizdich – apples/Berries

Officers nominated for a two-year term:
Chris Enright – Orchids, President/Delegate to CFBF Annual Meeting
Cynthia Mathiesen – Berries, 1st Vice President/Delegate CFBF Annual Meeting
David Van Lennep – Timber, 2nd Vice President/Alt. Delegate
John Eiskamp – Berries, Past President/Alt. Delegate
